(Umm - anyone watch Spongebob...??? A bit of a reference there to the episode
where Patrick and Sponge steal a balloon...)
Wow. Patrick Panzera's Contact magazine (the back issue order) arrived today.
I KNOW what I want to do with my Q1's canard and landing gear!!!
Issue number 79 is focused around the Phantom (a biplane racer built by Tom
Aberle here in SoCal) and I LOVE the lower wing and the way the gear are
mounted. (Patrick - would you consider posting a picture so everyone can see
just how nicely this is set-up?)
So just how critical IS the GU canard's anhedral? I'm STRONGLY considering
rebuilding it and replacing it with an LS1 canard anyways - could this gear
setup on the Phantom not be incorporated with the LS1 canard sections mounted
outboard of the gear? The anhedral would have to come out of it - or at least
most of it. In fact, you might even need to consider putting in a little
dihedral - those tips wouldn't sit very far off the ground... Are anhedral and
dihedral interchangeable? What's the relative value of one over the other? I
know that dihedral works to impart a bit of horizontal plane stability - does
anhedral do the same? What if you rebuilt the wing with more dihedral? Are
they additive?
I'm no engineer - but it sure LOOKS possible. Any opinions??
(I'm going to go ahead and post this on the Q Performance board as well - my
apologies to any who frequent both.)
