Ryan,

Why did you switch to the tri gear on your Q-1? Did the canard have
problems with the added weight of the VW engine? I noticed in the
pictures section that you did fly with the wheels in the canard tips.
How did it handle comared to the tri gear?

Hi Gary,

I switched to the tri gear to try and get rid of the 'landing bounce' that
can occur with this type of gear.

Most landings with the original gear were OK to good but some were terrible
and I would have to 'go around' .

Yes the canard had to work harder with the extra weight [wing loading]for
Take off and landings, but it also made it very stable over 100 mph. I have
had it up to 150 mph [Vne] in the pattern.

I modified the tailwheel and installed AZUZA go cart brakes to improve the
ground handling to the point of being nearly equal to a tri gears ground
handling.

I am still testing the tri gear.
