Q1_Aircraft: New to group was created by davedrosen
Greetings,
I saw Ryan's post on the Qlist and checked out this group. I did
not realise there was one just for Q1's. I felt kind of lost in the
other group as there are not a lot of Q1's there, and if your not in
their group (click) I felt somewhat ignored when I had questions. I
purchased a Q project off of someone at work who left and was moving
out of state (Texas to New Hampshire). This was his second Q so the
work quality is pretty good. I have been working on it for a bit
less than a year now. I have recently attached the rear wing, it is
not completely attached yet. The front wing is attached. I have been
working also on the firewall. I have just received a custom made
motor mount and am working on it when I can't glass the rear wing.
My engine plans are for a Hexadyne P60 4 stroke. I will post a few
photos in the photo section.
Regards
David Rosengrant

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the photos, keep them coming as you progress.

How much does the P60 weigh?

Ryan

Ryan,
The P60 weighs about 98 lbs. thats with alternator, oil tank,
starter, electronic controller, etc. It's made for aviation
(uncertified) and has some unique features. Pricey, but I think it
will be worth it in reliability etc. You can see it at
www.hexatronengineering.com click on P60. I noticed you used the
Azusa brakes. Thats what I have in there. I haven't done the
actuator yet. What did you do for this. I have the standard rudders
done so far. I have just the unterminated cables in the cockpit at
this point. I was thinking of just making a kind of heel brake. I
would be very interested in your implementation.

Dave,

Because of the mechanical advantage of the AZUZA brakes I used the
original type of pull handle and had good braking.

Ryan,
Did that handle work out well for you? What about differential
breaking? I used to fly a Cherokee 160 that only had an emergeny
brake type thing, no peddal brake. It was odd landing on short
runways and reaching down to pull the brake ( like a typical
cherokee parking brake). It was a little awkward (I can't spell
either) but it worked ok. What is your opinion. Do you think that
would be better than heel brakes (which I too think may be a bit
awkward, especially in a tail dragger.... although the piper j
series was a tail dragger and it had heel brakes).
Thanks Dave R.
