The difficulty in using a motorcycle engine is the transmission. To
eliminate it from the case would require some severe case cutting and
creates all kinds of issues. I've always thought it would be
interesting if you could use the transmission as the redrive, removing
the gears that you don't use and locking it in place. However, I've
never seen that done and that's usually a good indication of the
potential, since I'm sure someone has tried it before.

There was an article in Kitplanes or one of the other magazines about a guy who
did that with a Yamaha Virago shaft drive bike. He locked it in gear and drove
the prop from the drive shaft. I believe it was in a WWI repli-plane of some
sort. The guys at Hog Air use Harley V twins.
