Q1_Aircraft: Engine profiles and weights was created by Art Bianconi
I am working on two different designs of aircraft for which I need
engine data.

I'd like to believe that somewhere in the internet universe, there
exists a website that has 3 view outlines of the popular aircraft
engines. Lycomings, Continentals, Jibaru, Suburu's, Rotax's, etc the
various iterations within each manufacturers engine lineup and their
respective weights, displacements, etc.

I've not found it yet. Anyone here know of such a library and how it
can be queried?

Thanks

Art Bianconi

Here ( home.adelphia.net/~aeroengine/index.html ) is a web site
with a truly staggering amount of info about Horizontally-Opposed Piston
Aero Engines.

Replied by davedrosen on topic Q1_Aircraft: Re: Engine profiles and weights

All,
Great site and guess I'm going to have to spend some time in it. I
spoke to a prop expert today and I've been convinced that the
Hexadyne may not work well due to the low rpm combined with a short
prop. So I need an engine.... One with a higher rpm on the output
shaft. Are onan's still available? Are there other options. I've read
the Jinx/Brock paper, I guess this is an option. In that paper they
mention they tried several 4 strokes and none worked (I guess the RPM
was a problem here too). I noticed the only other engines being used
are Rotax, Onan and I saw one Kohler V twin. Any suggestios out
there?
Thanks

Dave,

Keep in mind that an airplane flys best with large cubic inches not
just horsepower.

The Onan worked because it is 48 cubic inches. How many cubic inches
do these new engines have?

Ryan; I curious about your comment, 'Keep in mind that an airplane flys
best with large cubic inches not just horsepower.'.

I've never here it before. Could you explain further?

regards, -john-
