John,
According to Trevor Shadbolt:
'PFD is hung on a wall down at Omarama Airfield, the young pilot flew
it on a wet and miserable day from Kaikoura airfield which is right by
the sea he did not get out of Ground effect, then got into a even
smaller 'sea effect' and splashed down, they float well he jettisoned
the canopy, and paddled her in like a canoe. I believe he is going to
resurrect her again one day.'
