Apart from the Onan engine, what is the preferred powerplant these
days ... anyone using a 1/2 VW conversion? Comments?

Ryan,

A 60hp engine seems like overkill for this design, the Q2 runs one of
those ... I thought the whole idea was to keep running costs down!!

Rob,

The original engine in my Q1 was not airworthy and I had a 1600cc
engine so the choice was easy.

Even though the Q1 flies fine with 22hp 50hp is better for me.
I burn 3.6 gph with a 1000 fpm climb and cruise of 100kts.

The extra 70# for 2x the HP makes the Q1 a Super Quickie.

Hi Ryan,

I was interewsted to discover that someone in New Zealand was
rebuilding a Quickie with a 40hp DAF engine. Not a bad substitution
for the original if they can be found. I suppose even a Citr?en power
plant would be possible as well.

Rob,
I am using a Hexadyne P60 engine. It?s 60 horse and weighs less than the
VW. You can see my pic?s on this web site in the photo section. Dave R.
