Issue 148

Hey Member,
Well the summer has been very busy for the Quickie Builders Association. It has been chock full of first flights, fly-ins, and building activity.

Unfortunately, our record of successful FIRST landings continues to decline. As you may have heard on the Q-list Joseph Snow attempted first flight in his Corvair powered Q-200 earlier this month. The plane didn't develop full power during the attempt, and the result was significant damage to the airframe. We are all grateful that Joseph walked away without injury, and we hope to see a full accident report in a later issue of Q-talk.

More details have emerged about the crash of Q2 C-GMBK that resulted from an engine failure in B.C., Canada in June. I contacted the pilot Calvin Thorne and he provided a full report for this issue. Again, we feel very lucky that the pilot lived to tell the tale, but another Q airframe was considerably damaged.

On a brighter note, Sam Hoskins took FIRST PLACE in his class in this year's AirVenture Cup Race. Sam claimed that the field was weak this year due to weather. I prefer to think that the field was simply intimidated by Sam's beautiful Q-200! Congratulations Sam!

Sanjay Dhall continues to impress with his latest flight reports as you'll discover later in this issue. In addition, Jerry Brinkerhuff has patiently worked his way up to high speed taxi testing as he awaits the final FAA paperwork that turns his project into a flying airplane. Our Michigan Contingent still needs your support though. So please continue to send Sanjay and Jerry regards and encouragement.

On a final note, I want to once again encourage all currently flying Q pilots to send in stories that might help current builders make more successful first flights. Your experience can go a long way towards improving the odds for those of us that haven't yet taken to the air. You can upload videos to Q-tube, upload pictures to Quicker, and add yourself to the Project Map.

In the meantime, sit back and enjoy this edition of Q-talk which is once again full of user submissions! As always, I appreciate your continued support, and look forward to working with you as we grow and expand together!

Remember, "Together we build better planes" (and newsletters.)

Warm regards,
Dan Yager
