Quickie Builders Association Together we build better planes! May/June 2008 Issue Number 129 |
Not so Sunny in Iowa City
Boy, what a difference a year makes. We gathered in Iowa City, but I wouldn't call it a fly-in.
This view out the airport conference room window tells it all. Just a year ago we were bragging about how much sun and fun we had at the Tandem Wing Spring Fling in Iowa City. The weather was 180 degrees out of phase from a year ago, so we just had the fun this year. Attendees were limited to less than 15 and had it not been for Paul Fisher getting a phone call from me late in the morning on Friday, we would not have had a plane fly-in. Our local host Greg Zimmerman has his Tri-Q200 based on the field so, officially we had two Q birds at our event. Bob Clarke from Ankeny, Iowa reported he flew in late Sunday morning and found no one around. That's just the way it was this year.
While we were waiting to see if the weather would improve, Kevin Boddicker took advantage of Paul Fisher's skill in wiring and had Paul wire up a new comm radio for him.
When Paul was done, he and Kevin even tested it. So, if it doesn't work in the airplane, Paul has witnesses that it wasn't his doing.
Greg and his wife Rosemary Zimmerman not only hosted me for the night, but cooked up a great breakfast on Saturday morning. You'll notice in the photos that we had to break out the coats and hover around the cooking stove. What a difference a year makes. There's always next year.
