Wings Over The Rockies - Denver, CO

{gallery}galleries/wotr{/gallery}

My wife had to give a presentation at a conference in Denver, CO.  I went with her, and instead of spending all of my time listening to lectures on nutrition and diet, I ended up going to the "Wings over the Rockies" aviation museum.  The museum has a nice collection of mainly "Cold War" era jets, all conveniently located in a single HUGE hangar.

Out in front of the museum, was a B-52 from SAC, so basically, if you're driving by, you're not gonna' miss the museum! Wink

Points that I thought were interesting were:

  • The "Jack" Swigert exhibit, a tribute to one of the astronauts on the ill-fated "Appollo 13" mission.
  • The Piper Cub (of course)
  • The "Experimental" F4U Corsair with oddly shaped wingtips.
  • The T-33 Jet Trainer.
  • The A-7 Corsair.
  • The Christen Eagle - Hanging from the ceiling.
  • The Wright Flyer Simulator.

I also really enjoyed the X-wing Fighter exhibit.  This was the plane that most closely resembled a Quickie.  It was there in honor of Harrison Ford who had just received an award for helping young people get interested in avaiation.  They also displayed models that children had built, based on airplanes they had seen in his movies.  I thought that was a nice touch.

In any event, if you're ever in Denver be sure to check out the "Wings Over the Rockies" aviation museum.
