QUICKIE BUILDERS ASSOCIATION

INTRODUCTION

by Robert Herd

As with any venture into an unknown, the initial directions are the most decisive toward success or failure. So it is with our first issue. The Quickie Builders Association was formed to provide support - technical, moral, or otherwise - to fellow pilots who are pursuing the dream of building their own airplane. Our main purpose is to help those individuals achieve that goal. It should be emphasized now and in the continuing months that our organization is only as strong as its membership. With every additional member, we gain an invaluable source of knowledge and expertise that should be readily cultivated.

When Jim Masal and I started this "venture", we both admitted to being neither professional writers nor editors. It is hoped our readers will forgive us these shortcomings on the promise we will do all we can to provide a clear, accurate account of the Quickie/Q2 experience. As a member of the QBA, we demand only one thing of you - to share your experiences with the rest of us. We cannot possibly begin to investigate and compile the huge amount of material ourselves. We rely entirely on you, the builders, for that information.

I encourage each of you to take a few minutes time and leaf through your plans for problem areas and your own fixes. Those "obvious" shortcuts you used may be unknown to a new builder half-way across the country. And don't think your idea has to be unique or creative. As a new publication, we have the advantage of starting from scratch and retracing the areas from a user's standpoint.

We appreciate the notes of encouragement many of you have sent and only hope to live up to your expectations as we continue to grow. Best of luck to all of you with your projects and let us hear from you!
