Issue 150

Hey Member,
As 2011 comes to a close, I look back and I am truly awed by all of the Q activity that happened in the last 365 short days. There were a tremendous number of first flights this year. Our record of first successful landings was terrible, including one fatal accident, but I am extremely encouraged moving forward, as we’ve begun to make flight SAFETY a higher priority. In this issue, we have 5 safety related articles, and I want to personally thank all of the people who contributed articles to help keep others safe.

This issue is the 150th issue of Q-talk, and the 180th issue of the newsletter! That is simply an incredible feat considering that the kits no longer have factory support. This speaks volumes about the amazing group of determined individuals that make up the Quickie Builders Association, and I want to thank each and every one of you for making my job as editor a little bit easier through your contributions and support. I have learned a lot in the last two years, and I actually look forward to continuing to serve you all.

2012 will be the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Quickie Builders Association and THAT speaks volumes about the determination of the previous Newsletter Editors to keep everyone together, keep them communicating, and keep them safe. I would like to send a heart felt THANK YOU to Jim, Robert, Tom, Dave and Susie, and Doug.

The website underwent a major software upgrade in November, and I have received lots of great feedback about the design. However, I continue to work on squashing bugs. The comments system, classified ads, and member map are still down as they await software updates to match the site. But the major issue with the website right now is SLOWNESS. I am aware of the issue, and I am working with the site host to fix it. If they are unable to help, I will probably switch hosts soon after beginning of the year. Popularity has its downside I guess!

But enough with the technical mumbo jumbo, for now, sit back and enjoy this edition of Q-talk which is once again full of user submissions! As always, I appreciate your continued support, and look forward to working with you as we grow and expand together!

Remember, "Together we build better planes" (and newsletters.)

Happy New Year Everyone,
Dan Yager

Building Boo-Boo's

If you read most articles in Q-talk you'd think that every idea that a builder comes up with is brilliant right off the drawing board. Mike Evans dispells that myth and comes up with a brilliant idea for a new series of articles!
