Q-talk 93 - 2002 Fly-in Schedule

Second Annual Livermore Tandem Wing Fly-In - August 16-17-18.

Last year's event was well attended and everyone had a lot of fun. Since this forum is for Q's as well as DF's, please feel free to invite friends that may not be aware of this event.

As you know, we are centrally located for anyone up or down the west coast. There is a ton of things to see and do around the San Francisco Bay Area. For more fly-in info, go to:

For the gals, Veronica Panzera will be hosting an all day trip to San Francisco. They will be leaving mid-morning on Saturday by car to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) then on to points of interest, fun and frivolity. Contact Veronica via e-mail Veronica Ann@hotmail. com

50th Annual Oshkosh EAA AirVenture - July 23 - 29

http://www.airventure.org/

For those of you who will be attending Oshkosh for the first time this year, we have compiled a list of helpful items to take along. Some of them are common sense, but it is always nice to have a checklist.

1. Comfortable, supportive shoes - These are a must. You may even consider inserting new foam insoles into your favorite pair because you will be walking and walking and walking and did I mention you will be walking a lot?

2. Sunscreen - The hot sun can be brutal as you view the daily air shows and travel from vendor to vendor. Choose a type that is water and sweat resistant. You may also consider a sunscreen lip balm.

3. Hat - Again, for sun protection. It could also be a chance to display your airplane type proudly, if part of its design.

4. Sunglasses - The sunglasses with UV protection are helpful when attempting to see airplanes through a hazy sky.

5. Water bottle - As the day progresses, you will get very thirsty. Carrying water with you could prevent possible dehydration. The water could also be poured onto a napkin and applied to your face or neck for a refreshing pick-me-up.

6. Book bag - This item is very handy for carrying the literature, free samples and airplane parts purchased at the show.

7. Small note pad / pen - While attending the many forums, a notepad will be useful to jot down product name brands, instructions, addresses and other points of interest.

8. Wet wipes - The airport does a pretty good job keeping up with the porta-potties but sinks are hard to come by. The individually wrapped wet wipes are great for washing hands before a meal or after going to the bathroom.

9. Shopping list - Before you leave home, create a complete list of items to be purchased while at Oshkosh. Be sure to include the exact size or quantity needed. This will eliminate confusion while shopping. The prices will vary from vendor to vendor, so notes could be taken to find the best buy.

10. Small calipers / tape measure - The pre-owned items sold at the Fly Mart or other vendors may not be labeled with size. These tools help assure a good purchase.

11. Camera / film - There will be plenty of photo opportunities while at the event, not only of Quickies but other planes, friends and unusual building techniques.

12. Poncho - Oshkosh is known for at least one big storm every year. The lightweight, portable ponchos are a nice protection against the elements. They could also be used as ground cover while sitting on the grass.

13. Collapsible lawn chair - After walking all day, sitting down sure feels good. The chair could be used to watch the air shows or for seating during meals/ snacks/breaks.

14. A game plan - Review the list of forums and special sights offered each day and make a note of the times and locations of your choices. Organization will prevent missing things important to you.

We hope you have a great week and we will see you at the Quickie forum on Saturday. July 27,2002, 9:00 a.m., in the tent next to the Homebuilder's Headquarters. You will be given directions at that time to Mike Brown's campsite for the QBA Brat Roast to be held later that evening at 5:00 p.m.
